With the NFL Draft just hours away, Cameron Jordan isn’t the only ex-Cal lineman whose stock is on the rise. Donovan Edwards worked out for the Raiders last week and a source close to the team tells me that the Silver and Black love him as a player and a person and see the Pinole Valley product as an ideal center candidate. The former Bear met with the Niners a few days later and a league source says that San Francisco also liked him at center, but worked him at tackle as well.

Wanna know more about the big man? Well, you’re in luck. California Golden Blogs chatted with Edwards earlier in the week and posted the exchange to their site.

Here’s wishing a guy that’s been humble and hilarious every time we’ve talked the best of luck wherever he ends up!

Which is taking place today at Niners headquarters in Santa Clara. The former Bears set to show their stuff include OLB Keith Browner, C Donovan Edwards, G Richard Fisher, C Chris Guarnero, CB Darian Hagan, NT Derrick Hill, DE Cameron Jordan, QB Kevin Riley, WR Jeremy Ross and RB Shane Vereen. Check back next week for info on the day as well as a wrap of Edwards workout with the Raiders.

So well in fact, that most NFL scouts have Jordan following in Tyson Alualu’s footsteps, by getting picked up in the middle of the first round. Jordan and former Bear, Mike Mohammed, are doing the physical stuff today – bench press, vertical leap, etc. – so I’ll post results from their workouts as they come in.

Coming into the Combine, Vereen was a projected 4th round pick, but after running his two 40-yard sprints in the high 4.4s while putting up great numbers at the bench press and vertical leap, don’t be surprised to see him taken late in the 2nd or early in the 3rd round in next month’s NFL draft.

Former Cal defensive back, Chris Conte, works out on Tuesday.

Kate and Nick are so excited about this Sunday’s NFL Pro bowl they decided to devote today’s entire podcast to the topic. Kidding. We’re kidding. The duo does touch on the game, but not before talking the NHL All-Star game, Monte Ellis’ All-Star worthy play, NCAA basketball, Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines, tomorrow’s Senior Bowl and potential Niners QBs to watch, NASCAR’s latest rule changes, and of course, Brian Wilson bringing down the house on Lopez Tonight. Are you a beard fearin’ Bay Area sports fan?

With the culmination of the current NFL season still a week away, a word of advice. Don’t ask San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh if he’s cheering for the Packers or the Steelers. Jim, well, he could care less. All he cares about is next season. The latest proof? According to CSNBA, Jimmy hired Brad Seely to be his assistant head coach/special teams coordinator and Kevin Tolbert to be the squads’ assistant strength and conditioning coach on Tuesday.

Seely’s been in the league for 22 years, most recently turning the lowly Cleveland Browns into the top special teams squad in the NFL during the 2009-2010 season. Tolbert is the latest Stanford assistant to leave the Farm for greener pastures. All together now … Goooo Niners!
