With the NFL Draft just hours away, Cameron Jordan isn’t the only ex-Cal lineman whose stock is on the rise. Donovan Edwards worked out for the Raiders last week and a source close to the team tells me that the Silver and Black love him as a player and a person and see the Pinole Valley product as an ideal center candidate. The former Bear met with the Niners a few days later and a league source says that San Francisco also liked him at center, but worked him at tackle as well.

Wanna know more about the big man? Well, you’re in luck. California Golden Blogs chatted with Edwards earlier in the week and posted the exchange to their site.

Here’s wishing a guy that’s been humble and hilarious every time we’ve talked the best of luck wherever he ends up!

Which is taking place today at Niners headquarters in Santa Clara. The former Bears set to show their stuff include OLB Keith Browner, C Donovan Edwards, G Richard Fisher, C Chris Guarnero, CB Darian Hagan, NT Derrick Hill, DE Cameron Jordan, QB Kevin Riley, WR Jeremy Ross and RB Shane Vereen. Check back next week for info on the day as well as a wrap of Edwards workout with the Raiders.

The former Cal offensive lineman will work out for the Raiders new assistant O-line coach, Steve Wisniewski, on Monday. According to a source, the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars – who shocked a lot of folks by taking former Cal D-lineman, Tyson Alualu, with the 10th pick in last year’s draft – have also expressed interest.

During his two year tenure with the Bears, the Pinole Valley product played in 34 games with 18 starts at right tackle. Listed at 6’5″, 280 lbs coming into last season, Edwards is working hard to add strength and reach 300 lbs. by draft day. Check back next week for details on his workout with the Silver and Black and as always…Go Bears!

CORRECTION: Edwards played three years at Cal, not two. Thanks to Felicia for pointing out my mistake!

That’s right, former Raiders star quarterback and huge fan of purple drank, JaMarcus Russell, needs to come up with $195,512.05 in the next three months or his Oakland mansion will be headed to the auction block. Chopping block? Regardless, hooray for train wrecks that aren’t named Charlie Sheen making the news!

Since owner Al Davis bid adieu to the draft bust Russell in 2009, the Southern boy has been living in his native Alabama, despite numerous attempts to make another NFL squad.

So I know it probably sounds crazy (sarcasm noted), but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that J-Money won’t be dropping another dime on this place. Your thoughts?

For those of you wondering how to get a shout-out on this here blog, two ideas: be an overachiever and/or be a penguin. If it’s possible to be both at the same time, you’ve officially doubled your chances.

That’s why today I’m giving a huge round of applause to former Alameda High and Dominican University basketball star, Michaelia Baskerville. This young lady not only kicked ass on the court, she also graduated last spring and is now working on her master’s while simultaneously interning for the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders.

Man, I’m winded just typing that!

Anyway, Mike McGreeham at Inside Bay Area has the full story, which obviously, you should read if you’re in the mood to be inspired. And for those of you wondering, so I get the overachiever aspect, but where’s the penguin come in?

Well, the mascot for Dominican just happens to be my favorite little creature. Speaking of which, my friend that went there still owes me a t-shirt …

Kate and Nick are so excited about this Sunday’s NFL Pro bowl they decided to devote today’s entire podcast to the topic. Kidding. We’re kidding. The duo does touch on the game, but not before talking the NHL All-Star game, Monte Ellis’ All-Star worthy play, NCAA basketball, Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines, tomorrow’s Senior Bowl and potential Niners QBs to watch, NASCAR’s latest rule changes, and of course, Brian Wilson bringing down the house on Lopez Tonight.
