Hey sports fans! Hope you’re having a great week! Just wanted to hit you with a quick update on why I’ve been slacking on blogging and podcasting as of late. The reason being that my schedule has been turned on its head. I went from working the 3-11pm shift to waking up at 3am to fill-in on the 5am-noon shift on KNBR! I’m having an absolute blast, but have had to put the TWSS blog and podcast on the back burner as a result. So, I – and Nick too! – just wanted to say that we promise to resume our regularly scheduled rants as soon as I get some sort of routine figured out. Until then, enjoy the rest of the NBA and NHL Finals and take a look and a listen to the best college sports call in a loooooong time.

Cal baseball. Regionals. Danny Fry at the mic. Two words: GO BEARS!

To our 18 dedicated listeners, thanks for your patience! Nick and I will be back talking NHL and NBA Playoffs, the NFL Draft, and much more next week. Until then, Happy Passover, Happy Easter, and happy it’s almost the weekend!

I’m smiling this morning, thanks to two former Bay Area athletes with the courage to stand up for what is right. Full disclosure, I’m gay, so hearing about the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s (GLSEN) new “Changing the Game” project hits close to home. The project’s mission is as follows:

To assist K-12 schools in creating and maintaining an athletic and physical education climate that is based on the core principles of respect, safety and equal access for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

Though I didn’t come out until college, I had friends who I believe would have in high school, if the support and respect that this new project aims to bring had already been in place. So while I know it’ll take time for this campaign to make a difference, I’m hopeful that eventually it will help create a positive environment in which numerous young LGBT athletes – who may shy away from sports fraught with homophobia today – are able to excel.

In addition to Fujita and Wiggins, other supporters and members of the Project’s advisory board include: Hall of Fame tennis players Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova; ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com columnist LZ Granderson; Olympic softball medalists Jessica Mendoza and Lauren Lappin; Toronto Maple Leafs President and General Manager Brian Burke; three-time All-American wrestler Hudson Taylor; Rugby player Ben Cohen; former MLB player Billy Bean; and former NBA player John Amaechi.

TWSS Will Be Back …

Posted: March 10, 2011 in Rants

Hi friends! Hope you’ve had a great week!

My apologies for not posting the past few days. I’ve been on jury duty and am hoping to complete my service Friday, so that Nick and I can record a much overdue TWSS podcast on Monday.

UPDATE: Kate remains in jury duty limbo through Monday, so a new TWSS show will (hopefully) be up on Tuesday.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Kate has finished her duty as a civil servant. (Whew!) So check back on Wednesday for a “March Madness Preview Edition” of the TWSS podcast!

And again, thanks so much for your patience. Nick and I promise to make this week’s show worth the wait!

Why? Because we want to get as many Packers and Steelers fans onto our Friday podcast as possible! So, if you’ve ever wanted to be on a sports show and be able to share the recording with all of your friends, now’s your chance!

First, think of a 15-30 second rant on why YOUR team is going to win this Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Second, call 415-413-7316 and leave your name and rant in a message. If you’re not happy with the way it turns out, just hang up and call again. We’re only an answering machine at this point, so if at first you don’t succeed, try until you do!

Third, check back to the TWSS blog around 3pm PST on Friday.

That’s it.

We’ll post the names of the folks that make it into the show when we post the ‘cast right here on Friday. So start scheming and call in soon! We want to hear from ALL of you!

The deadline for rants is Midnight ET on Thursday.

We Want to Hear from You!

That’s right, TWSS now has a hotline! Consider it our attempt to give you a space to vent your sports frustrations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! Warning: If we’re amused by what we hear, chances are you’ll make a future podcast.

So, whip out your phone and plug-in our number, stat:

415-413-7316

Whenever you disagree with something we say, love something we post, see something you want us to talk about, or go on a really bad date and have to share, call us!  The best part? We’re only a voicemail number at this point, so you can erase what you say if you’re unhappy with it and call back as many times as you want.

And just in case you need a little more incentive to call in, if you leave us a really good message, who knows, you may just end up being our first LIVE in-show interview.
