Hey sports fans! Hope you’re having a great week! Just wanted to hit you with a quick update on why I’ve been slacking on blogging and podcasting as of late. The reason being that my schedule has been turned on its head. I went from working the 3-11pm shift to waking up at 3am to fill-in on the 5am-noon shift on KNBR! I’m having an absolute blast, but have had to put the TWSS blog and podcast on the back burner as a result. So, I – and Nick too! – just wanted to say that we promise to resume our regularly scheduled rants as soon as I get some sort of routine figured out. Until then, enjoy the rest of the NBA and NHL Finals and take a look and a listen to the best college sports call in a loooooong time.

Cal baseball. Regionals. Danny Fry at the mic. Two words: GO BEARS!

Two words: You’re welcome.

Despite his diminutive size, 2-time Cy Young Award winner and 2010 World Series Champion – Timmy “The Freak” Lincecum – can apparently fit quite a bit of junk in the ol’ lunch box.

That’s according to this story, which states that Tim’s usual order at In-N-Out is three Double-Doubles with cheese, two orders of fries and a milkshake. In other words, the 168 lb. pitcher – yeah, right – can put away 3,385 calories in one sitting. If you think that’s impressive, just wait ’till you hear what he eats at his favorite burger joint back in Washington!

And my love affair with Mr. Lincecum continues …

I heard about this awesome organization for the first time a few months ago when my friend, Renee, was applying to be a route leader. (That’s called a tease) Hmm, can anyone guess why I’m writing about it today? That’s right! I’m writing because Renee rocked her interview and is now preparing to spend her summer biking from Rhode Island to Seattle, building affordable housing along the way. So, what exactly does this have to do with Bay Area sports, you ask?

Well, first off Renee lives in Mill Valley, teaches 6th grade in nearby Fairfax, and also happens to be a Cal alum. (Go Bears!) Second, a number of other riders are also Bay Area residents. And third, the Bay Area is absolutely MAD about road biking, so I figured at least a few of you who read this blog would be interested in learning more about such a cool organization.

If you’ve got any interest in sponsoring Renee, click here. And as one of her many poor friends let me just say, it doesn’t matter how much you give. I know firsthand, she can use every penny! 🙂

Occasionally, things catch my eye that have nothing to do with Bay Area sports. If those things make me exclaim “holy cats!” I post them. This video is one of those things.

Full disclosure, I’ve got a soft spot for long snappers. After meeting and interviewing former Cal and current Washington Redskins long snapper, Nick Sundberg, I realized what an incredibly difficult and thankless job long snapping can be. Think about it. Even offensive linemen get props every once in a while for simply doing their job. Long snappers? You only hear their names when they mess up.

So without further ado, check out Zach Enyeart, a former Washington State Cougar and one of the top rated long snappers in the upcoming NFL Draft. He may not be a Cal or Stanford guy, but hey, at least he’s reppin’ the Pac-10/12 and is NOT from U$C 🙂

For those of you wondering how to get a shout-out on this here blog, two ideas: be an overachiever and/or be a penguin. If it’s possible to be both at the same time, you’ve officially doubled your chances.

That’s why today I’m giving a huge round of applause to former Alameda High and Dominican University basketball star, Michaelia Baskerville. This young lady not only kicked ass on the court, she also graduated last spring and is now working on her master’s while simultaneously interning for the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders.

Man, I’m winded just typing that!

Anyway, Mike McGreeham at Inside Bay Area has the full story, which obviously, you should read if you’re in the mood to be inspired. And for those of you wondering, so I get the overachiever aspect, but where’s the penguin come in?

Well, the mascot for Dominican just happens to be my favorite little creature. Speaking of which, my friend that went there still owes me a t-shirt …
